To unlock a golden version of any instrument you must beat solo mode on any difficulty using that instrument.
Silver Instruments
To unlock a golden version of any instrument you must beat bonus tour mode on any difficulty using that instrument.
Air Instruments
To unlock a golden version of any instrument you must enter the Hall of Fame using that instrument.
