Hard mode:
Complete the Rainbow Cup in the Normal Tournament.

Saikyou (expert) mode:
Complete the Rainbow Cup in the Hard Tournament.

Alternate costumes:
By winning the indicated cup to unlock the corresponding alternate costume. To wear the costume, Hold Up, Down, Left, or Right while moving the appropriate character into the basketball ring. Different costumes may appear depending on the direction used while moving that character.

Black Mage: Rainbow Cup in the Hard Tournament (Bronze rank)
Daisy: Flower Cup (Silver rank)
Flyguy: Star Cup in the Hard Tournament (Silver rank)
Ninja: Rainbow Cup in the Hard Tournament (Silver rank)
Peach: Mushroom Cup (Silver rank)
White Mage: Rainbow Cup in the Hard Tournament (Gold rank)
Yoshi: Flower Cup in the Hard Tournament (Silver rank)

Gira Gira Desert stage (Star Cup):
Win by more than 800 points in the Star Cup in the Normal Tournament.

Malboro Garden (Flower Cup):
Dunk three times in the Daisy Garden court in the Flower Cup. Then, collect the blue seed from the panel that appears.

Sunset Beach (Mushroom Cup):
Select Exhibition mode, and win a game by over 200 points at Noko Noko Beach between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Flower Cup:
Complete the Mushroom Cup.

Rainbow Cup:
Complete the Star Cup.

Star Cup:
Complete the Flower Cup.

Unlock Birdo:
Complete the Mushroom Cup in the Hard Tournament (Bronze rank).

Unlock Black Mage:
Complete the Rainbow Cup (Gold rank).

Unlock Boo:
Complete the Flower Cup in the Hard Tournament (Bronze rank).

Unlock Bowser:
Complete the Star Cup.

Unlock Cactuar:
Play in the Desert stage in Exhibition mode. A cactus may appear in the sand. Get above it and Catuar will jump out the sand and run away. By winning the stage to unlock Cactuar as a playable character.

Unlock Dixie Kong:
Complete the Flower Cup (Bronze rank).

Unlock Flyguy:
Complete the Star Cup in the Hard Tournament (Bronze rank).

Unlock Moogle:
Complete the Star Cup (Silver rank).

Unlock Ninja:
Complete the Rainbow Cup.

Unlock Paratroopa:
Complete the Mushroom Cup (Bronze rank).

Unlock White Mage:
Complete the Rainbow Cup (Silver rank).

Rainbow Road Dribble Race:
Beat the time records in the Peach Castle dribble race (0:45) and Sunshine Road dribble race (0:55).

Bonus basketballs:
After finishing the indicated task you will unlock the corresponding basketball.

All Silver: Complete the Dribbling challenges.
Blue And Silver: Complete Training mode.
Blue And Silver: Do all the practice "missions".
Cheep-Cheep: Get a "Gold" rank in the Mushroom Cup in the Hard Tournament..
Dice: Get a "Gold" rank in the Flower Cup in the Hard Tournament.
Gold: Collect 5,000 points in your profile
Goomba: Get a "Gold" rank in the Star Cup in the Hard Tournament.
Orange And Purple: By winning the Bowser Castle Exhibition.
Pumpkin: Lose five times in multi-player mode.
Rainbow: Win five times in multi-player mode.
Red And Black: Win Rainbow Cruise in Exhibition.
Red, White And Blue: Only three point charged shots tourney (Mushroom Cup normal recommended).
Soccer: Get a "Silver" rank in the Mushroom Cup in the Hard tournament.

Watermelon: Get a "Gold" rank in the Flower Cup.
Yellow And Green: By winning the Daisy Garden Exhibition.

Bonus Coin Hunters mode levels:
Win five consecutive Coin Hunter mode to unlock the Mario Classic 2-2 and Forest Stage levels.
